This is a great question and the fact that you want to expand your network while in college will give you a huge leg up in life. I recommend you read my articles, “how do you network as a college student” and “how do you build a professional relationship and network with college professors.” These are two great starting points.
The great thing about college is that there are so many individuals who are just like you and looking to meet new people. It’s a great place to network because it is hard to find people who will shut you out. At the same time, don’t shut anyone else out. Even if you’re a freshman and someone else is a senior (or vice versa), you can still build a relationship. You can also build relationships with professors, administrators, and other school employees.
Join clubs and organizations that interest you. Don’t be afraid to talk to those around you whether it be individuals in the dining hall, or talking to the person next you in class before the professor starts talking.
Other than that, networking in college requires the same fundamentals as every other place. Be sure to follow up with people. Write down notes about the people you meet so that way you can remember details and bring it up in future conversations. Ask good questions, not just the basics. Connect with those you meet on social media. And of course, figure out how you can provide value to those you connect with.
